Where the Queen’s Baton Relay will go in Ipswich

The route the Queen’s Baton Relay will take in Ipswich.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will make its way through some of Ipswich’s most iconic locations when it visits the city next year in the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Baton will visit Ipswich on 29 March, 2018 beginning at Ipswich State High School about 2.40pm.

From here, it will travel along Hunter Street and turn right onto Pine Mountain Road. It will continue along Pine Mountain Road before making its way onto North Street, via Wyndham Street.

From here it will head for The Workshops Rail Museum where it will have a short stop.

Once it gets going again, it will head along Downs Street past Ipswich North State School and onto The Terrace, making its way onto Pine Street before heading over David Trumpy Bridge.

From here it will loop under the bridge, via Olga Street, onto Bremer Street where it will travel next to the iconic Bremer River before turning left into Elizabeth Street and heading for Ipswich Grammar School for a short stop.

It will leave the school via Woodend Road and turn left into Burnett Street before making its way onto Brisbane Street where it will travel through the Ipswich business district.

At the five ways intersection the Baton will turn right onto Chermside Road and head for Griffith Road where it will enter Limestone Park between 5.30pm and 6pm, joining a community celebration event.

Celebration of community

A community celebration will round out the Ipswich leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay.

It will be held at Limestone Park behind the PCYC with food trucks, entertainment and family-friendly activities planned.

The celebration will have a sporting theme and go from 4pm to 7pm, with a family movie night to follow.

More information will be made available closer to the event.

After many months of planning it’s exciting to be able to reveal the route the Queen’s Baton Relay will take when it visits Ipswich next year.

It means residents can now take a look for themselves and start scoping out the best vantage points.

The route takes in several iconic Ipswich locations including St Mary’s Church, The Railway Workshops Museum, Brisbane Street and the Bremer River.

It will also pass by Queens Park on its way to Limestone Park where a community celebration will be held.

I want to assure residents significant planning has gone into traffic management and while the relay will cause delays, plans will be in place to minimise disruptions as much as possible.

A few delays are a small price to pay to take part in this exciting international event.
