The wrapping is ready to come off as St Nicholas Precinct unveils stunning, immersive light displays in Tulmur Place from 13 to 22 December.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the St Nicholas Precinct will be merry and bright with crowds of smiling faces enjoying the wonder of Christmas.
“St Nicholas Precinct is the star attraction of Christmas in Ipswich once again. This year will bring festive cheer with new installations and experiences illuminating Tulmur Place,” Mayor Harding said.
“The designs and features of the much-loved lighting installation are being updated this year, with an all-new creative concept and layout.
“Be ready to be dazzled by a never-before-seen St Nicholas Precinct, concentrated in Tulmur Place now that our newly-opened major entertainment venues are lighting up Nicholas Street and Union Place.
“With free entry and parking each night, come all ye faithful to immerse yourself in the cheerful environment. Expect live entertainment, market stalls, photo opportunities and plenty of Christmas fun.”
Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said it was fantastic to see a priority night for those with sensory needs included in the program.
“We want as many people as possible to enjoy the festivities and with a dedicated low sensory night, we hope more families will feel the joy of Christmas,” Cr Augustine said.
“On Monday 16 December from 6pm to 9pm, those with sensory needs will be able to enjoy the magic of St Nicholas Precinct with a gentler, quieter environment and a dedicated low sensory tent.”
Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said St Nicholas Precinct was a family favourite last year, attracting almost 50,000 people to the city heart.
“Residents and visitors have loved the dazzling light display that has taken over our transformed city heart at Christmas since 2021,” Cr Antoniolli said.
“This year is sure to be special, with an all-new design for St Nicholas Precinct bringing Tulmur Place to life with lights, colour and Christmas magic.
“The precinct is wheelchair and pram accessible, so everyone can come along to enjoy the festivities during the most wonderful time of the year.”
Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said the twinkling lights display is the perfect night out for families.
“Families can now make memories over a meal and movie before the lights are switched on. Head over to Hoyts Cinemas and put your feet up as you enjoy the latest movie, or unleash your competitive side at General Public before strolling through the stunning display,” Cr Doyle said.
“Or stop off for a meal at the transformed Ipswich icon, Hotel Commonwealth.
“The Christmas spirit can be felt all throughout Ipswich too, with Christmas Lights Tours taking you around the city to discover the best displays on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December. Get in quick and book your tickets at Christmasinipswich.com.au.”
Amateur photographers who want to use tripods and other bulky equipment are asked to avoid peak times and be mindful of other visitors.
Undercover parking is available in the Nicholas Street Precinct, free on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays, and three hours free before 5pm on weekdays, with entry from Bremer Street.
