Almost 12 months since fire devastated the historic homestead building at Spicers Hidden Vale Sunday lunches return to its popular Homage restaurant
Fortunately Spicers is more than one building. All accommodation and other facilities spread across the rural property were untouched by the fire in the main building.
After the fire a new kitchen was added to the nearby century-old barn which had previously been used for events.
This character filled space will be used as a restaurant at least until the new homestead is completed later this year.
Homage restaurant has earned a reputation for its exciting menu which features local produce, and since the blaze destroyed the original kitchen, the chef has been focusing on cooking with fire.
This year the open barbeque, fire pits, smoke house and wood oven have become an integral part of what Homage is all about.
An added twist to dining at Homage enables visitors to take a chef’s tour of the extensive market gardens, farm yard and fermenting shed before dinner.
Meanwhile the replacement for the homestead is taking shape and will be similar in look to the previous one.
General manager Claire Sinclaire said it would include a restaurant. bar, lounge area and boardroom.
“It’s an exciting time for us now.
“We are putting the fire behind us and look forward to this new chapter at Spicers Hidden Vale,” she said.
