A new clubhouse for community sporting groups will be soon built at Silver Jubilee Sports Facility in Spring Mountain, after Ipswich City Council selected the construction company this month.
Finance and Governance Committee Chair and Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said construction starting on the $3 million clubhouse would be a key milestone for Ipswich’s rapidly growing eastern suburbs.
“Community sports groups welcomed the expansive Silver Jubilee Sports facility when it opened last year with two rugby fields, an AFL field, six dedicated basketball and netball hard courts, picnic facilities and playground,” Cr Tully said.
“This exciting new facility will include a clubroom, change rooms, referees’ rooms, kitchen and food preparation area and more – everything our community sport clubs need to succeed.
“This project is being jointly funded by council and the Australian Government through its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“Construction of this major clubhouse will cap off the delivery of critical sport and community facilities for the growing Spring Mountain community and surrounds.”
Following a tender process, council recently selected H&G Contractors from 10 businesses to deliver the project.
Cr Tully said the clubhouse construction would also include solar cells, rainwater harvesting tanks, unisex toilets, a medical room and cleaners’ room, and be fully accessible.
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the addition of a clubhouse at the Silver Jubilee Sports Facility would be welcomed by the growing community.
“I am delighted this clubhouse is coming to fruition, giving the popular Silver Jubilee Sports Facility more opportunities for the community to play, compete and relax,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.
“It means so much to the community. We have many new sports clubs in this growing area and they have been advocating strongly for this new clubhouse.
“This will be a clubhouse for the people. It will make such a difference to all the sports clubs, their ability to raise revenue for their players and supporters and enable more community sport into the future.”
Australian Government funding for this project is through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, stimulating additional infrastructure construction in local communities nationally to help in managing the economic impacts of COVID-19.
Construction is expected to start in late 2024 and be completed by mid-2025.
