The Rosewood Library is now reopened after a five-week closure to carry out crucial repairs to the roof.
Ipswich City Council Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Jacob Madsen said it was great to see the library reopen on Monday 16 December, just in time for the school holidays.
The work was necessary following significant storm damage to the library roof.
“Work to remove and replace all solar panels and roofing sheets have now been completed,” Cr Madsen said.
“Rosewood locals can now enjoy all their favourite programs and books once again, with a new roof making the library better for all.
“The closure was a little longer than anticipated with heavy downpours delaying works by a week. I’d like to thank all library users for their patience and support as the repairs were completed.”
Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden said the Rosewood Library was a popular destination for locals during the school holidays.
“Ipswich Libraries are known to host wonderful programs during school holidays, with a Christmas Disco, robot testing and story times hosted at Rosewood Library this week. I’m delighted that our Rosewood residents won’t miss out on the holiday fun,” Cr Madden said.
Division 4 Councillor David Martin said the works were needed following a major hailstorm in October 2020.
“Rosewood experienced a significant hailstorm in 2020, damaging the library roof and a number of homes. These insurance works have ensured the building won’t be further damaged during these unprecedented weather events,” Cr Martin said.
All Ipswich Libraries branches will be closed for the holidays from Tuesday 24 December from 1pm and will reopen on Thursday 2 January.
