Park-loving Ipswich families will need to add another location to their list with a new $5 million park – complete with rocket-shaped playground – ready for lift-off.
The park on Fitzgibbon Road off Ripley Road is in Ecco Ripley’s newest neighbourhood, Lighthaven, and will be the centrepiece of 10 hectares of parkland and green open space.
It was officially opened on Sunday and is named Faye Carr Park after Ipswich identity Aunty Faye Carr.
The park has custom-made play equipment suitable for all ages including three giant rocket ships, swings, slides, zip lines and seesaws.
There is a giant snakes and ladders game, large interactive sundial, shared bike and walking paths and a learn-to-ride bike track.
A fenced multi-purpose court with basketball hoops and soccer goals is sure to be popular as is the separate half-court netball court and a large kick-about area with rugby and soccer goal posts.
Fitness enthusiasts can stay in shape using the full-sized outdoor gym.
LED smart lighting has been installed throughout the park and the amenities block will be powered by solar panels.
There is also a sheltered barbecue area and pet friendly drinking fountains.
Ecco Ripley development manager Frank Galvin welcomed the park’s opening.
“This is a major milestone for Ecco Ripley and the broader Ripley region, and it meets our commitment to creating unique recreational spaces for the community to enjoy,” he said.
“Ecco Ripley prides itself on its sense of community, and there’s no better way to encourage this than by bringing everyone together for a great day out at the park.”
The new park is not far from Ripley Town Centre, stage one of which recently opened.
It also follows the recent opening of a nearby dog park, the first in the Ripley region.
