Relief for the Salvation Army through rates concession

Council will grant a concession for general rates for the Salvation Army’s Salvos Stores warehouse at Carole Park, enabling the charity to continue its good work in the Ipswich community.

Ipswich City Council Finance and Governance Committee Chair Councillor Paul Tully said council was proud to support Salvation Army and other charities that make a notable difference in the community.

“Council is pleased to aid Salvation Army through this rates concession, providing some relief to the charity, allowing them to further help our community,” Cr Tully said.

“The Salvation Army has deep roots in Ipswich operating here since 1885. The inspiring work the charity carries out has helped many residents through the toughest of times.

“During the 2022 floods, local Salvation Army officers provided around 3,000 meals to impacted Ipswich residents. Salvation Army has consistently shown up for our community during hard times.

“In addition to Salvos Stores, the Salvation Army provides a broad range of community programs, from aged care and homelessness services to alcohol and drug services and money care.

“The charity also provides spiritual and social activities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, taking a holistic approach to the care of our community.

“Recognising the positive impacts the Salvation Army has across the city, council deemed the property eligible for a rates concession.

“Through the council’s charitable rates concession, multiple charities have been able to continue helping the Ipswich community through a range of programs without bearing the full impacts of rising costs.”

The Carole Park property serves as a Salvos Stores warehouse from which items are distributed to stores where the community can then purchase the second-hand goods.
