Ipswich residents and local businesses have more reasons to be excited about the $250 million Nicholas Street Precinct revitalisation after council signed two big brands as the precinct’s latest tenants.
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle said she was excited to welcome Sushi Hyo and Terry White Chemmart to the city’s leading entertainment and cultural destination.
“They will join Gelatissimo and That Dumpling Place as tenants in the precinct that will provide a relaxed atmosphere with great food, adjacent to the Ipswich Central Library on Nicholas Street,” Cr Doyle said.
“It is exciting to know the hub will soon come alive with even more places for the community to come together and share a delicious meal of sushi or dumplings with gelato for dessert.”
Terry White Chemmart will relocate from its current location in the precinct to a larger, more centrally located footprint and pave the way for additional complementing service providers.
Ipswich’s much-loved Commonwealth Hotel has seen AusHotels sign on as the new operator of the iconic pub.
Councillor Doyle said the hotel, formerly known as Murphy’s Pub, has been meticulously restored to maintain its heritage façade and planned extensions will transform the site into a modern dining and entertainment hub.
“The reopened hotel will draw more people to the precinct, bolster local trade and help reactivate the night-time economy in the Nicholas Street Precinct and complement the precinct’s other new offerings,” Cr Doyle said.
“It is an exciting time for the precinct with more prospective tenants entering into legal negotiations with council and plenty of events planned throughout 2022.”
