Ipswich City Council is planning to upgrade a section of the Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve to include a new skate park, multipurpose courts, amphitheatre/stage, learn to ride course and parkour activity space.

General Manager of Infrastructure and Environment Charlie Dill said council is committed to providing spaces that promote social inclusion, health and well-being benefits for our community.
“We are planning new and improved youth facilities at Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve and we would like to know your ideas before the design is finalised,” he said.
“Council has been working with CONVIC, a specialist in skate park and youth area design. A concept of the proposal has been completed.
“The works will include a new skate park, multipurpose courts, amphitheatre/stage, learn to ride course and parkour activity space. The facilities will be constructed in stages with the new skate park to be constructed as stage one.
“Now we would like your feedback – so let us know your ideas. All feedback received will be considered along with the technical review of the concept to ensure Council is delivering the best possible space for the Ipswich community.”
This upgrade was originally identified as a need in a park master plan undertaken in 2009. In 2016 a concept for the precinct was further developed.
Submissions are welcome now for the Redbank Plains skate and active recreation concept plan. Public consultation closes on Sunday 14 June 2020.
Other works within the park precinct, which are still to be approved through council’s budget process, include an upgrade to the existing car park from Cedar Road, and an upgrade to the existing toilet block and toddler area. If this is approved, works will commence in the 2020-21 financial year.
The car park closest to the existing sports fields is also earmarked for future expansion.

It’s great to see an upgrade of this park for the community. I have ask why multipurpose courts, there is so much space there. What about bike track. I pray that the community respects this facility.
What about either a pool or water park.

Please incorporate a community garden for orchard fruits and seasonal vegetables with ammenities such as glass house and green house and community room. I would envisage 5 to 10 acre land allocation with the ability for future expansion.
Activities would include compositing, worm farming and distributing excess produce into the community as well as helping to encourage self sufficiency, healthy diet options and sustainable gardening techniques.

We would love a runway, some shelter and toilets please.
Do we really need that much skateparks? Perhaps consider older generations using the parks such as dog walkers, general exercising and nature lovers. No so much concrete lovers.
Having lived in the immediate area since before the existing skate park was constructed, a major concern of mine is how drainage and cleaning of the skate bowl will be managed. The existing structure initially included a half sphere bowl that was later filled in. It would constantly fill with water after rainfall and have rubbish accumulate inside, blown in by the wind. I foresee this being a huge issue if not managed correctly.
Why do you have to get rid of the old skate park. It is perfectly fine with some maintenance. Add to the skatepark not replace. So wasteful and a waste of taxpayer’s money

Has construction commenced?
Hi Anthony – council released the concept design for feedback earlier this year. It’s now in detailed design, scheduled for construction across the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 financial years.
Fantastic, the drawings look great. Is convic doing the skate park design and construct?? Their bracken ridge plaza is excellent and I frequently drive from Ipswich to skate it and take my kids to the pump track.
I think it’s important to get a quality install to avoid drainage issues and ensure long term enjoyment.
Not sure of the bracken ridge construction date but I’ve been visiting for years and it’s always packed and still a quality park.
