Ipswich City Council will open the doors to its new dedicated children’s library and administration building, known as 1 Nicholas Street, in the Nicholas Street Precinct on Monday 28 June.
It marks the first opportunity for Ipswich residents to explore the new Ipswich Children’s Library and access council’s customer services at 1 Nicholas Street, which will also house the city’s elected representatives and more than 750 public servants.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said it will be a historic day for the City of Ipswich.
“The $246 million Ipswich Central redevelopment is our commitment to bringing jobs and attractions back to the city centre,” Mayor Harding said.
“The Ipswich Children’s Library and 1 Nicholas Street form the centrepiece alongside our city’s beautiful civic plaza, Tulmur Place.
“Our growing community needs world-class facilities for work, education and leisure.”
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee chair Councillor Marnie Doyle said council was excited to share the two new spaces with the Ipswich community.
“There is so much that the Ipswich community can look forward to with the opening of 1 Nicholas Street and the Ipswich Children’s Library including an improved customer service experience and an exciting new space for our city’s youngest residents to explore, learn and play,” Cr Doyle said.
“We can’t wait to share these new spaces with Ipswich residents and celebrate what we have achieved together as a community.”
More details about events during the opening week (Monday 28 June to Saturday 3 July 2021) will be announced in the coming weeks.
