Timelapse tracks $7.6m road project, and it’s even more epic than the Star Wars trailer

It’s green for go with the Redbank Plains Road stage two upgrade officially open to traffic. This timelapse tracks the transformation, the biggest infrastructure project in last year’s budget, from January 17 to October 6.
Upgrade builds on council’s integrated transport plan

The completion of the stage two upgrade of Redbank Plains Road builds on stage one, which was opened to traffic in April last year at a cost of $9.3 million.

Stage two included widening the road from two lanes to four lanes between Cedar and School roads and installing new traffic lights at Frawley Drive.

Turning lanes were expanded to increase capacity while public transport users will benefit from improved access to bus stops.

Bike lanes were extended to provide direct access to Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve and Goodna Creek Bikeway.

The new traffic signals will provide safe access into and out of the adjacent residential area.

To keep the look of Redbank Plains Road consistent as we progressively upgrade stages, council will be installing a natural stone crazy pave finish on the new cutting retaining walls constructed as part of stage two works.

Council is to engage a specialist contractor to undertake this work for delivery in November this year.

Stage three work enters early design phase

Redbank Plains Road is a major thoroughfare between Ipswich Central, Ripley Valley and Springfield Central, providing access to other suburbs like Brookwater, Augustine Heights, Collingwood Park, Blackstone, Booval and Silkstone.

It offers access to the Ipswich Motorway and Centenary Highway as well as major residential, business and industrial areas.

Early design work is underway for stage three of the road upgrade between Kruger Parade and Stuart Street.
