Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for our city? Now is the time for residents to nominate local heroes and inspiring individuals who better our community for Council’s 2022 Australia Day Awards.
Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards close on 13 November 2021.
Mayor Teresa Harding said Council’s Australia Day Awards are a great way to acknowledge and thank those who make Ipswich a better place to live.
“Ipswich is known for its community spirit and the Australia Day Awards are the time of year where we can acknowledge and celebrate the positive work and contribution of our active community members,” Mayor Harding said.
“The past year has been a tough one for the Ipswich community with the COVID 19 pandemic putting greater pressure on our community and sporting groups.
“It’s more important than ever to recognise those people in our community have really stepped up.”
2021 Ipswich Citizen of the Year award winner Glen Smith said he would like to encourage the community to nominate someone in their life for the honour of an Ipswich Australia Day Award.
“Nominating someone for this award is not just about celebrating their work, but also their cause,” Mr Smith said.
“To win this award is a great opportunity to tell your story and inspire others to do the same.
“Also, by nominating a person for this award, even if they don’t win, shows just how many awesome people live in this city.”
Australia Day Award categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Cultural Award
- Sport and Recreation Award
- Community Event of the Year
It takes three simple steps to nominate, and a nomination takes less than 30 minutes on average to complete.
