A new time-lapse video has been released showing the remarkable progress made across the $250 million Nicholas St redevelopment since the start of this year.
The short clip begins by following the progress of the new nine-storey council administration building before moving onto the library and finally the civic plaza.
It shows the administration building rising from ground level around the building’s core as crews undertake concrete pours, install support columns and raise scaffolding.
The action is equally impressive at the library site, which is shown transforming from just a steel frame into a stylish building ready for internal fitout.
Footage from the civic plaza provides another perspective on the redevelopment and also captures the recent installation of the pipework for the zero depth water play area.
While the new time-lapse video is a chance to reflect on the precinct’s progress, there has been no slowing down by the 230 workers currently on site.
In the past week, concreting has started on the floor on level five for the administration building, with the installation of precast concrete pillars between levels six and seven not far off.
The library’s ceiling is getting a paint and exterior panelling on the fascia has been completed.
The steel frame for the second of two shade pavilions in the civic plaza is finished, with crews continuing to work on the Bradfield Bridge walkway extension as well as landscaping features.
Also this week, Ipswich City Council resolved to appoint a new committee to oversee the final stages of the Nicholas St redevelopment.
Dubbed the Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee, it will be chaired by Deputy Mayor Marnie Doyle and include Mayor Teresa Harding and Councillors Nicole Jonic, Kate Kunzelmann and Russell Milligan.
The Nicholas St redevelopment is the largest transformation to be undertaken in the Ipswich CBD in more than three decades.
It will create a thriving civic, retail, dining and entertainment zone in the heart of Ipswich.
Car park temporarily closed
The Ipswich Central car park in the Nicholas St precinct will be temporarily closed between midnight on Thursday, 28 May 5.30am on Monday, 1 June for electrical works.
Visitors should use on-street parking during this time.
