The wait is over for the “epic mega” adventure playground at Orion Springfield Central which is now open for play.
The huge million-dollar playground is four times the size of its former self, and has everything from a merry-go-round and climbing nets, to in-built trampolines and lots of swings.
It also has a custom parkour-inspired obstacle course. The real stand-out though is the playground’s centrepiece – a mammoth three-storey climbing tower with a giant slide.
Hayley Jenner lives in Springfield, with her young family among the first to try it out.
“We’ve all been waiting anxiously for it to open, and I heard today it was, so I took my daughter and my niece straight down. They’re loving it,” Ms Jenner said.
Bellbird residents Chi and Nathan Cantrell were happily surprised to come across the new playground.
“We didn’t know about it, but our little boy Leo, who’s almost two, spotted it as we walked past, and he almost leapt out of my arms,” Mr Cantrell said.
Centre manager Greg Plawecki said the playground was built around fun and inclusion.
“We listened to everyone in the community, from the kids to the grandparents, and we’ve made sure the play space delivers the best possible experience for all,” he said.
“It’s really important to us that our playground brings joy to everyone in our community, which is why there’s a range of play equipment suitable for all ages and abilities including a dedicated toddler area, wheelchair friendly equipment and plenty of shade and seating for the parents.
“The bold and bright play space encourages children to challenge themselves and get active and also allows parents to get involved too.”
Orion Springfield Central is at Main Street, Springfield Central.
