A neighbourhood shopping centre at Springfield is set to expand after council approved a development application.
Real Asset Management (RAM) – the owners of Springfield Fair on Springfield Parkway – plan to add two new pavilion-style buildings at the centre’s main entrance to allow for indoor/outdoor dining.
“The proposed buildings are to be constructed from a suite of contemporary style materials and colours that take on a sub-tropical style form utilising large windows and shaded outdoor areas to maximise ventilation and breeze access,” the application notes.
“The proposed development creates a space to allow for a mix of uses that were previously not possible, and assists to increase activation of the site at different times of day in a safe manner.
“The design of the works appropriately complement the existing building on the site and improve activation of the building’s perimeter.

“The applicant has submitted a Noise Assessment Report that analyses the potential noise impacts on nearby sensitive uses and determines the proposal will not create any additional or worsening impacts.
“The positioning of the proposed works means the existing shopping centre building acts as an acoustic shield for potential noise impacts on the closest residential uses.”
Sections of the car parking area will also be reconfigured, with 272 car parks to be available on site once the development is finished.
Head of Real Estate at RAM, Will Gray, said the move to expand the shopping centre was driven by a desire to make the Springfield shopping hub even more of a focal point for local residents.
“We saw an opportunity to reconfigure the entrance of the centre via incorporating a new food and dining precinct providing further public amenity and centre activation,” Mr Gray said.
“RAM has further plans to refurbish the centre within the next 12 months providing all occupiers and consumers with a modern convenience based retail experience.”
