Just a few days left to have your say on new draft Ipswich Plan 2024

There are less than two weeks left to have your say and help shape the future of Ipswich.

The new draft Ipswich Plan 2024 can be viewed online at the Shape Your Ipswich website, along with the interactive planning scheme, mapping, factsheets, presentations and webinar videos.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding encouraged residents to have their say and be involved in the draft scheme.

“Where our city’s growth and development occur is always of interest to our community so this is your chance to tell us what you like and don’t like, and what you would like to see changed in the draft,” Mayor Harding said.

“We had a good community turnout so far at the range of engagement events we’ve held, from meetings in libraries, school halls and shopping centres, to phone calls and in-person appointments.

“We’ve had about 13,900 people view our new draft Ipswich Plan 2024 webpages, with 114 submissions made so far, but we’re always happy for more.”

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said the best way to provide feedback was lodging a formal submission.

“We’re encouraging everyone to submit through the Shape Your Ipswich website or phoning and making an appointment to speak to a planner,” Cr Tully said.

“It’s important we record your views in a formal submission. This will ensure your views are submitted and recorded in a timely and accurate manner and it’ll help council’s planners to have a clearer understanding of how the plan relates to our residents’ properties and neighbourhoods in this great and beautiful city.

“A submission can be used as a base to support elements of the draft scheme, to raise questions, or to object to the draft scheme or a combination of these options. If you are in doubt, make a submission.”

The City of Ipswich is Queensland’s fastest growing city. The current population of 247,000 people is expected to grow to 535,000 by 2046.

Submissions close 16 July.
