Join in 50 Ipswich sites for Clean Up Australia Day

Community support is needed to meet an ambitious target Clean Up Australia Day sites across Ipswich.

Community support is needed to meet an ambitious target of 50 Clean Up Australia Day sites across Ipswich in 2023.

Early registration for the Sunday 5 March event is required to ensure sites receive a free Clean Up kit containing bags and other resources.

Council also offers community sites registered before 24 February a free entry for a nominated vehicle to drop-off their collected rubbish at the Riverview Recycling and Refuse Centre.

Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said council was proud to support the community-driven initiative.

“Registering a site for Clean Up Australia Day is making a pledge to do something positive for Ipswich’s natural environment,” Cr Milligan said.

“It’s easy and free to register – I encourage Ipswich groups, businesses and schools to make that pledge today.

“Cleaning up in Ipswich also means helping out Moreton Bay and our beautiful beaches and oceans. Every piece of plastic litter starts its journey in our backyards, local creeks and rivers.”

Clean Up Australia Day Chairman Pip Kiernan said the environment was facing pressure unlike ever before.

“As all Australians know, over the past two years, we’ve seen severe bushfires, cyclones and floods, and increased pressures on our biodiversity and an ever-growing volume of waste which leaks into our natural and marine environment,” Ms Kiernan said.

“Australians tell us every day that they are concerned about the world we live in but often feel frustrated and unsure how to make a positive impact.

“Clean Up Australia Day is a great opportunity to work together and take practical action.”
