A Redbank Plains local will be mixing with the world’s best at New York Fashion Week next month.
Chantelle Sisco will join models, make-up artists, hairdressers, stylists and designers from around the world as promising new talents are given a chance to shine.
The 18-year-old started her own business less than a year ago, Styled By Sisco, but has been braiding her whole life.
“It is my passion and I love it,” Ms Sisco said.
With braiding a popular trend currently, Ms Sisco was spotted at her first fashion show in Brisbane recently.
After the New York Fashion Week coordinator was impressed by Ms Sisco in person she followed her Instagram page and later offered her a position in the backstage pool.
“I just thought it was a scam at first,” she said.
“It wasn’t until I spoke to her on the phone that I realised it was legit, she was very professional.”
In three weeks’ time she will touch down in The Big Apple with her hair kit and a dream – no one is more shocked than her.
“I would never have thought I would have an opportunity like this,” Ms Sisco said.
“I dropped out of school in year 11 and did a job I hated because I had to have a job.
“I didn’t know how my life was going to go.”
Now Ms Sisco has an opportunity to make contacts and build her business.
Her parents have started a GoFundMe campaign to help their daughter as the opportunity comes with a hefty pricetag.
“Anything helps, even 50 cents. Some people have donated already and I think ‘people actually believe in me’. I appreciate it so much,” Ms Sisco said.
