Ipswich businesses and residents have banded together to set a new record of 50 registered sites for Clean Up Australia Day, the most in the city’s history.
Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said he was proud the community had stepped up.
“We set an ambitious goal of at least 50 sites across the city, so I’m really proud that we have achieved that goal,” he said.
“Now we’re hoping for a big turnout on Clean Up Australia Day on March 5, so we are encouraging everyone to spend just a bit of their Sunday at one of the many sites across Ipswich.”

“From that website, you can search by suburb name or postcode and you’ll see a map that shows you all the events around you,” Cr Milligan said.
“It has never been easier to take part and join.”
The Springfield Scouts Group will clean up two parklands around the YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre.
Springfield Cub Scout Leader Thomas Hewitt said they were excited to take part and help out the city.
“Scouts is based on being outdoors and being community orientated, so Clean Up Australia Day fits the Scouts ethos perfectly,” Mr Hewitt said.
“We will be cleaning up two parks that we use quite often, so it is great for us to be able to give back to the community and the environment.”
Clean Up Australia Chair Pip Kiernan said Clean Up Australia Day was a great opportunity to work together and take practical action.
“Australians tell us every day that they are concerned about the world we live in, but often feel frustrated and unsure how to make a positive impact,” she said.
“We seek the support of all Australians. Together we can all make a real difference.”

- Ipswich Libraries – Friends of Ipswich Libraries Service, Picture Ipswich, First Five Forever, Home Library Service, Library Greeters, Ipswich Poetry Feast, Local History Room and the Ipswich Children’s Library.
- Ipswich Visitor Information Centre
