Australian first for Ipswich’s newest community park

Local families couldn't wait to be the first to play at Pace Park, Rosewood.

Ipswich’s newest park opened in style on the weekend, featuring Australia’s very first Giant Dome within a golf-themed playground in the heart of Rosewood Green.

Located just a short chip-and-putt from the development’s adjacent golf course, the innovative, sustainable, and action-packed design leaves nothing in ‘the rough’ for local families who have been eagerly-awaiting its arrival.

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding was thrilled to be on hand to officially open Pace Park, named in recognition of the family who has been instrumental in bringing Rosewood Green to life.

“It’s fantastic to join the Rosewood community in celebrating this new gathering place for our young people, and the young at heart,” Mayor Harding said.

“We are a vibrant and growing city, and council carefully considers how we can cater for the thousands of families joining our neighbourhoods each year while maintaining the natural beauty and open spaces that we know and love.

“Getting this delicate balance right is a high priority for council, and I am pleased to see first-hand how almost a third of Rosewood Green is dedicated to parks, open spaces and wildlife habitat.”

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said it was fantastic to see the carefully-curated park consider sustainability throughout its design.

“Council is committed to mindfully tackling waste and acting sustainably in all that we do, and it’s no different when it comes to managing our extensive network of parks and open spaces,” Councillor Tully said.

“At Pace Park, the play tower’s panels are made from 100 per cent recycled materials such as food packaging waste and plastic bags and are recyclable after use.

“The play tower’s floor decks are also made from 75 per cent maritime waste such as ghost fishing nets removed from the ocean.

“Given council is charged with making decisions every day with the future of our young people in mind, it’s pleasing to see that even children’s play equipment can incorporate waste and sustainability in its design.”

Pace Park’s play equipment includes Australia’s first Giant Dome reaching six metres high with more than 170 play activities.

Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said the opening of Pace Park is a welcomed new facility for the Rosewood community and shows council’s ongoing commitment to making Ipswich a green and liveable city.

“Pace Park will be a busy hub of activity as families enjoy the outdoors and the hours of entertainment provided for children of all ages,” Deputy Mayor Milligan said.

“I have no doubt it will become home to many friendships and memories formed for years to come.”

Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said that Rosewood, like many parts across Ipswich, was experiencing rapid change and growth – yet maintaining its village charm.

“It’s easy to see why families are flocking to Rosewood Green to enjoy the beautiful scenery and appeal that our community is known for,” Councillor Kunzelmann said.

“From the new library opened in 2020, to the recently-completed major road upgrade along William Street, council is committed to ensuring our community has the services and facilities it needs.

“Pace Park in Rosewood Green is another feather in Rosewood’s cap and will be enjoyed by our growing number of families across the community.”

The play equipment, including Australia’s first Giant Dome at six metres high with more than 170 play activities, as well as the double flying fox, in-ground trampoline, multi-spinner carousel and play tower, is designed by Australia’s Urban Play.

It is backed by more than 50 years of research proven to develop happier and healthier children.

“We have created the ultimate hub for a family day out,” Playground Designer at Urban Play Tobias Volbert said.

“Climbing to the top of the dome, flying through the air on the cableway, or learning to ride a bike, children will get lost in hours of exciting play as they explore Pace Park.”

Pace Park is at Vassallo Drive, Rosewood.
