The Ipswich Show Society has requested the 2023 Ipswich Show Holiday be held Friday 19 May 2023.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said council will make an application to the Office of Industrial Relations to have the Ipswich public holiday gazetted.
“The Ipswich Show is one of the largest community events in the region and is much loved by the Ipswich community,” Cr Fechner said.
“In 2023, the Ipswich Show Society will be celebrating 150 years, so it is going to be a big one.
“Local businesses and residents look forward to the long weekend and we will now progress a formal application to the State Government to lock the date in.”
The first Ipswich Show was held on 13 May 1873 at a site in Churchill facing the Bremer River and moved to its present site on Warwick Road in 1877.
The show promotes the development of pastoral, agricultural, horticultural and industrial interests in Ipswich and attracts more than 30,000 people annually, with an estimated economic benefit to the Ipswich of more than $1 million.
“The Ipswich Show has always prided itself on showcasing and promoting local talent and is already calling for local acts,” Cr Fechner said.
Local entertainers, schools, and community groups who wish to perform at the 2023 Show can download the Community Stage application form at ipswichshow.com.au
