Queensland COVID-19 health restrictions have eased from 1am Thursday 14 April 2022, allowing full community access to all council-controlled venues and facilities regardless of vaccination status.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said further easing of restrictions signals a milestone step in Ipswich’s recovery from the pandemic.
“From 14 April council will welcome back all residents and visitors to the Ipswich Art Gallery, Ipswich Nature Centre, function spaces, indoor entertainment venues, outdoor community events, sports centres and swimming pools,” Cr Fechner said.
“The easing restrictions are perfectly timed ahead of Easter and will hopefully provide a boost to local hospitality businesses, who have been greatly impacted by the health restrictions.”
Cr Fechner said there were no vaccination requirements for residents accessing any council libraries or customer services.
“Council is continuing to support Ipswich businesses, community and sporting groups impacted by COVID-19 through funding and grant opportunities,” Cr Fechner said.
“For more information, please visit the Funding and Support page on council’s website or contact the council call centre on (07) 3810 6666.
“As a public sector entity, council is obligated to comply with the Public Health Direction and has applied it throughout the pandemic to ensure we keep our community safe.
“Council continues to strongly encourage the vaccination of its employees, contractors and visitors.”
Venues that have been open only to vaccinated people will be open to everyone, regardless of vaccination status, include:
- Pubs, clubs, cafés and restaurants
- Theme parks, casinos and cinemas
- Weddings
- Showgrounds
- Galleries, museums and stadiums
- State Government Library
The State Government said vaccine requirements still apply to visitors and workers in vulnerable settings including hospitals, aged and disability care, prisons, schools and early childhood centres.
While there are no changes to masks requirements, council recommends the community continue to wear masks whenever you cannot socially distance and stay home if you have flu-like symptoms.
