A number of council services will take a short break over the Christmas and New Year period, while essential services including council’s emergency call centre and waste collection will remain unchanged.
Ipswich City Council CEO Sonia Cooper said she hoped that the impact on residents would be minimal while allowing a large proportion of the council workforce to spend time with their family and loved ones between Christmas and New Year.
“Council’s emergency call centre will continue to operate 24 hours a day via the usual customer service number 3810 6666,” Ms Cooper said.
“We wish the community of the City of Ipswich a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year and look forward to continuing to serve you in 2023.”

1 Nicholas Street Administration Building
Closing: Friday, 23 December at 12pm
Reopening: Tuesday, 3 January 2023
Visitor Information Centre
Closing: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and 1 January 2023.
Varied opening hours:
- Friday, 23 December 8.30am to 4.30pm
- Saturday, 24 December 9am to 12pm
- Tuesday, 27 December 9am to 4pm.
- Wednesday, 28 December to Friday, 30 December 8.30am to 4.30pm

Ipswich Nature Centre
The Centre is open seven days a week from 9.30am to 4pm. It is only closed on Christmas Day.
Ipswich Art Gallery

Ipswich Civic Centre
Closing: Monday, 19 December
Reopening: Saturday, 14 January 2023
Civic Centre Box Office Services

Ipswich Libraries
Closing: All branches will close on Friday, 23 December at 12pm.
Reopening: All branches will resume regular opening hours on Tuesday, 3 January 2023.
Riverview and Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centres
Closed: Christmas Day only.
All weekly and fortnightly wheelie bin collections will happen on their regular allocated weekday including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Council swimming centres
Closed: Christmas Day
Public holidays: 10am to 4pm

Queens Park Nursery
Closing: Thursday, 22 December
Reopening: Wednesday, 4 January 2023
Queens Park Nursery does not operate on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Ipswich City Council mobile nursery
The mobile nursery has concluded for 2022. It will resume on 5 February, 2023, at Johnston Park, Rosewood.
Ipswich Pound and Animal Management Centre
Closed: Christmas Day only.
Opening hours: 8.30am to 5pm weekdays, and 10am to 5pm on weekends or public holidays.
