Excitement has been growing in the emerging city heart as the final stages of construction get underway at Nicholas Street Precinct’s premier entertainment destination, the Venue building.
Council’s contractors have been busily painting and installing lighting throughout the first floor, ready for HOYTS to move in and complete furnishings and fit out – including the all-important popcorn and slurpy machines in the Treat Street and Arties’ Bar area. The cinema screens are being prepped to provide hours of drama, laughs and suspense for viewers.
Ceiling installation has progressed in recent weeks and all external brickwork on the architecturally designed building has been completed. The main dividing wall to the ground floor separating tenancies is also now in place and preparation works for the ground floor tenant are underway in preparation for General Public, the exciting new entertainment venue coming to the Precinct with bars, restaurants, bowling, arcade games and so much more.
In addition to escalators craned into place earlier this year, the lift has recently been installed and is in the final stages of commissioning. Major structural work of previous months is now making way for final additions, with doors being installed, painted, and prepared with handles and hardware.
While all the action has been behind safety screens to date, the public can now see scaffolding being removed and finishing materials installed on the external of the Nicholas Street Venue building as they make their way around Top of Town, d’Arcy Doyle Place and within the precinct.
With HOYTS preparing to move in at the Nicholas Street Venue building and AusHotels poised to take over Hotel Commonwealth, there are exciting times ahead as council’s Nicholas Street Redevelopment project revitalises the city heart and reignites the city centre’s night-time economy.
