Division 3 Councillors Marnie Doyle and Andrew Fechner have provided an update their division on key council projects impacting local residents and businesses.
This division stretches from One Mile and Leichhardt in the west to parts of Redbank in the east and includes Booval, Bundamba, Collingwood Park, East Ipswich, Eastern Heights, Riverview, Silkstone, Woodend and more.
Façade Improvement Program update
Twelve businesses have given their shopfronts a new look under the Façade Improvement Program after council matched dollar-for-dollar funding up to $15,000 for refurbishments.
Whether it was a fresh coat of paint, replaced awnings or additional lighting, façade renovations have freshened Ipswich Central which helps encourage people to stay longer and spend more in local businesses.
Riverview park playground upgrades
Maculata Family Park in Riverview now has more playground equipment and shaded areas funded through council’s Provisional Projects Program.
Division 3 Councillors Marnie Doyle and Andrew Fechner were delighted to advocate for these park improvements after discussions with local community members.
The upgrades included the removal of existing swings to install new monkey bars and a five-swing set, and trees have been planted along two boundaries for safety and sun protection.
Willey Street BMX Park upgrades
The Willey Street Park BMX Track will soon receive a $1.5 million upgrade as part of council’s commitment to provide facilities that meet the needs of younger residents.
Planning for a new canteen, office, first aid room, toilets and storage has begun with construction expected to start in the coming months.
Once completed, these facilities will help attract future state and national BMX events to Ipswich.
Installation of electric heaters at Leichhardt Swim Centre
The Georgie Conway Leichhardt Community Swim Centre is an important facility for older residents, people with disability and those undertaking rehabilitation programs to access water exercise and hydrotherapy activities.
Through a recent council engagement process, pool users indicated the pool was not warm enough which was impacting their use of the facility.
Council has acted on these concerns and is transitioning from gas to electric heaters at the swim centre, and will heat the pool to 32 degrees Celsius year-round.
