Christmas Wonderland returns as the centrepiece of an exciting Christmas in Ipswich 2020 program.
Nerima Gardens in Queens Park will again be transformed into a magical wonderland with illuminated trees, thousands of glittering lights and more.
A new COVID Safe Event format will be in place for Christmas Wonderland this year, which means the event will be ticketed.
Proceeds raised will be distributed to Ipswich charities. A nominal fee of $5 per person, $15 for a family of four or $20 for a family of five has been set.
Mayor Teresa Harding said tickets were expected to be snapped up quickly by residents looking to share in the Christmas cheer.
“Christmas Wonderland is our city’s newest annual tradition and has cemented itself as a festive favourite with Ipswich families,” she said.
“It has been a challenging year, between the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the severe storms and we’re all looking forward to spending quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
“We can all use a bit of festive cheer this year and Christmas Wonderland will provide plenty of that.”
Ipswich charities to benefit from this year’s Christmas Wonderland event are Ipswich Hospital Foundation, The Message of the Cross Indigenous Corporation, Queensland Youth and Families Support Services, Roderick Street Community Kindergarten, Rosewood Community Centre and Young Veterans Ipswich.
Mayor Harding said she was pleased council was able to give back to the community with ticket proceeds while meeting its COVID-19 Safe Event obligations.
The nominal ticket price will ensure people who really want to attend are able to.
“Just like our residents, many of our charities and community organisations have also done it tough this year with major fundraisers and events cancelled because of COVID-19,” Mayor Harding said.
“These funds are vital for them to continue the important work they do in our community.”

Tickets for Christmas Wonderland will be available from midday on Monday 23 November 2020.
