Behind The Screens: Skylight in and outdoor paving begins at the Venue

The skylight has been installed in the Venue.

It’s been four weeks since our last Behind The Screens look at the Venue building and there’s plenty to be excited about.

The Nicholas Street façade steel is in place, allowing the façade cladding and roller shutters to be installed.

The building has been “topped out” with the remaining steel and roof sheeting all installed. As an important project milestone, a Topping Out Ceremony was held this week with the Hutchinson CEO Scott Hutchinson, Mayor Teresa Harding, Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle and Hoyts representatives all in attendance to mark the occasion.

Externally, work is continuing on the iconic clocktower and the paving on Brisbane Street is nearing completion, with work moving to Ellenborough Street next to reopen the street in time for Christmas. The final section of slab has also been poured on the ground level, another milestone achieved in preparation for tenants.

Notable progress has been taking place inside the Venue. Scroll around for a 360 degree view.

There’s also been impressive progress with the re-build of the cinema boxes, with most of the walls insulated and sheeted. Over the next four weeks, the timber-tiered works for the cinema seats will start and ceilings in up to three cinemas will be installed.

It is anticipated that the lift installation will also start and the escalator moved into position before Christmas. At this point, the project would have used more than 50 tonnes of structural steel, 500 m3 of concrete, 6,000 square metres of roof sheeting and more than 35,000 square metres of plasterboard.

Significant work has taken place inside the Venue, with cinema boxes starting to take shape. Click on the dots for more information.

But most importantly, the project has adaptively reused the existing structure of the building, providing a more sustainable outcome than many traditional new builds. To date the project has employed 35 people, many of whom reside in the Ipswich area.

Sheeting and services, including power and air-conditioning, are progressing smoothly.

We’ll revisit the site in December to keep you updated on what is occurring with this exciting development in your emerging city heart.
