Ipswich City Council’s popular Active and Healthy Program continues to be embraced by the community as residents get active and make new connections.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said council is delivering on its commitment to enhance the quality of life for community.
“The Active and Healthy Program supports and encourages the Ipswich community to become more active and develop connections through a range of free and low-cost group sports, recreation and wellness activities,” Cr Fechner said.
“In the 2022-2023 financial year, the Active and Healthy Program saw participation grow to 18,554 over a total of 1,112 activities/events/workshops delivered.
“This equates to a 73 per cent increase on participation from the 2021-2022 financial year (10,708 participants) and a 30 per cent growth in the number of activities delivered to the community (857 activities).”
New in 2022-2023 included the launch of the Active Wellbeing Program – a new program focusing on gentle movement and connection to mind and body and a Nutrition Workshop series, with topics including Eat the Rainbow, Health on a Budget, and Healthy Supermarket Hacks.
Bike Riding Workshops saw a 483 per cent increase in participation and Active Seniors saw the greatest participation numbers with 6,162 people taking part.
